Next door to Café Opera is the classic Operabaren. The original decor is intact and the environment is unique with its mix of Art Nouveau and English gentlemen's club. A visit to Operabaren is like stepping back 100 years to 1905 when the bar opened. Since then, the restaurant has attracted a diverse mix of guests ranging from artists and writers to business people and artists. Classic Swedish dishes are on the menu. People meet here for a meal or just to have a drink, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the view of Kungsträdgården.

Radar couple Tore Wretman and Werner Vögeli worked side by side for several decades, from the opening of Operakällaren in 1961 onwards. One of the questions they asked themselves was what to do to make the regulars happy. Tore and Werner came to the joint conclusion that those who eat out every day easily get tired of gastronomic dishes, what they want is well-prepared home cooking. That's why Operakällaren has been serving Swedish home cooking in the house ever since.
